Hiring a Mediator In New Jersey Divorce

Posted by Unknown | Aug 15, 2016 | 0 Comments

pen and word mediation

How do I know what mediator to hire in order to assist me with my new jersey divorce? The first trait that makes for an effective mediator is having the appropriate credentials.  As divorces are finalized with the courts and often times based on the law, in order to be a truly effective divorce mediator the individual should be an attorney.  The attorney who you choose as a mediator should also be trained in all aspects of mediation and conflict resolution techniques.  The mediator should have the ability to be non-judgmental, be patient, have the ability to succinctly explain to the parties the divorce process, their rights, as well as what may transpire if they elect to engage in traditional protracted litigation.  Most importantly, the parties going through a divorce need to feel comfortable with the mediator.  In order to establish that comfort level, it is recommended that the parties who are going through a divorce and making the choice of a mediator set up a meeting with the mediator in order to have any and all questions that they may have asked and answered prior to agreeing to retain the mediator and undertake the mediation process.
